47Plate
A way to contact a driver who has chosen to be reachable.
Earlier software is being restored under the working name 47Plate. No public contact service is available.
47Plate is being developed around a simple idea: use a vehicle’s registration number to contact an opted-in person, without needing their personal phone number. Consent and controls against unwanted contact are essential parts of the intended service.
An everyday situation · illustrative example
You notice that a parked car’s lights have been left on. The proposed experience would let you look up the vehicle, check whether its contact option is enabled, and send a relevant message. If the person has not opted in, there should be no contact route.
What the service needs to get right
Choosing to receive messages, controlling contact and handling abuse must work together. A registration number should not become an invitation to expose someone’s identity or contact details.
Where the work stands
Recovered software has documented test results. That is a starting point for restoration, not evidence of a working public directory or messaging service. The complete consent, lookup, contact and abuse-handling journey still needs verification.
